Critique Group for Christian Writers

RULES:

 

(NOTE - Your work does NOT need to have an explicitly Christian message to participate in this group or feature Christian characters.)

 

1. Respect and Constructive Feedback:

   • All critiques should be respectful and constructive. Focus on helping the writer improve, not on criticizing or dismissing their work.

   • Avoid personal attacks or negative language. “This doesn’t work” should be framed as “I think this could be more effective if….”

2. Honesty with Tact:

   • Offer honest feedback but be mindful of how it's delivered. Criticism should be actionable and aimed at improvement.

   • If you don’t understand something, ask for clarification in a respectful manner rather than making assumptions.

3. Confidentiality:

   • All work shared within the group is confidential. Do not share, publish, or discuss the work outside the group without the author’s permission.

   • Respect intellectual property and ensure that no writer’s ideas or unpublished work is used without consent.

4. Encouragement and Positivity:

   • Acknowledge what works well in the writing, and give positive reinforcement. A good balance of critique and praise is important.

   • Encourage the writer to keep going, even if the feedback is tough.

5. Stay on Topic:

   • Ensure that discussions focus on the work itself—style, structure, character development, etc. Personal matters or off-topic conversations should be avoided.

6. Be Open to Critique:

   • As a writer, be open to receiving feedback. It is meant to improve your work, not to diminish your effort or creativity.

   • Accept critiques graciously and use them as a tool for growth.

7. Respect Different Writing Styles and Genres:

   • Writers should respect that others may work in different genres or writing styles. Be open-minded and refrain from judging based on personal preferences.

8. Constructive Group Dynamics:

   • Foster a supportive atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable sharing their work.

   • Don’t dominate the conversation or critique process. Allow all group members a chance to participate.

9. No Plagiarism:

   • Writers should not copy another author’s work, either from the critique group or from other sources. Everyone is responsible for producing their own original material.

10. Professionalism:

    • While the group may be informal, professionalism should be maintained. This includes punctuality, preparation, and respect for differing opinions.

11. Conflict Resolution:

    • If conflicts arise within the group, they should be handled calmly and respectfully. Focus on finding solutions, not placing blame.

    • If necessary, a neutral group member may mediate any disputes.
